WHAT IS NIL?
Collegiate student-athletes are now able to take advantage of opportunities using their name, image and likeness. These opportunities can include being paid or receiving free products for doing an autograph signing, hosting a basketball camp, being a spokesperson for a business in media advertisements, doing community service and many others options.
The NCAA, individual colleges and universities, state law makers and Congress are continuing to develop NIL guidelines and educational resources for student-athletes as everyone involved tries to determine is best for all parties.โ
When making your college selection, speak to the coaching staff and/or athletic administrators about NIL opportunities for you as a prospective student-athlete. If needed, please consult a lawyer, manager, agent or at the very least, a tax expert to make sure you understand the obligations of these agreements. โ
This is an evolving issue for the NCAA, so use this page provided by the NCAA to keep track of NIL Policies and Guidelines, in addition to resources that your future collegiate destination offers.
